Public consultation

Merger

In early 2021, the boards of management at UHI North Highland, UHI Outer Hebrides and UHI West Highland commissioned a review into their long-term strategic future. A Partnership Board was formed in September 2021 to formally explore the option of merger.

Following a well-supported initial consultation, a full merger proposal and business case was published on 8^th August 2022. A 10-week public consultation ran from 8^th August to 14^th October 2022. Island Communities Impact Assessment (ICIA)

In year one as a merged entity, UHI North, West and Hebrides will undergo an organisational restructure and curriculum review; to ensure there is not a disproportionate impact on our island communities, and access to curriculum and opportunities for people living in rural communities are protected and enhanced, the College has committed to completing an ICIA.

Under the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018, UHI North, West and Hebrides is not named in the list of “relevant authorities” legislatively required to undertake an ICIA, nor are any of the legacy merger colleges. However, in recognition of good practice and our commitment to our rural communities and people, the College will conduct an ICIA in year one of merger. This page will be updated with more information when it is available.
