Build your confidence with numbers

The course builds from simple number systems and arithmetic to more complex subjects like graphing and probability. Every session covers a complete subject, so you can choose which you want to attend – there is no need to do them all.  At each session, our lecturer will explain how to do the calculations and then in small groups, you will work through a number of problems with the lecturer's assistance. The sessions are designed to be informal and fun.

This course aims to empower you to use numbers for everyday calculations and on completion, you will be able to:

  • Quickly calculate the change you will get from a purchase,
  • Calculate ratios to convert a recipe for 2 into a recipe for 4,
  • Work out how much material, or how many bricks you need for a home project,
  • Convert from pounds to kilogrammes or other unit conversions,
  • Estimate how likely you are to win a local lottery and lots more.

The sessions are designed to be informal and fun and can be adjusted to best suit what you want to learn.

There are no exams and at the end of every session, you will receive a college certificate.

This course will be delivered  at UHI North, West and Hebrides, Thurso campus, Ormlie Road.
