What is special about this course?

Successful learners in environmental science think creatively, analyse and solve problems. Environmental science aims to produce responsible citizens, through studying relevant areas such as the living environment, the Earth’s resources and sustainability. Learners will be able to develop their communication and collaborative working skills.

Environmental science is an interdisciplinary subject, which draws from the sciences and social sciences. The Course is practical and experiential and develops scientific awareness of environmental issues.

This course is designed for students entering rural skills sectors, especially the sub sectors of estate management or sustainable development.

Entry requirements

National 4 Maths plus one other National 4 science subject.

  • Food: An introduction to the farming of food
  • Energy: The impacts of energy and climate change
  • Waste management

How will I study my course?

Timetabled learning will take place in an online classroom where you connect and interact with your lecturer and classmates, at set times, using video, voice and text chat.  You will also complete regular and flexible personal study which most students choose to do from home. 
 

How long will my course last?

34 Weeks

From September to June on Wednesday evenings, 5pm-9pm.

Attendance on two Saturdays is also required.

    What can I do on completion of my course?

    Path 1: Progress on to Higher Environmental Science.

    Path 2: Consider a college course with a focus on working within the outdoor environment.

    Path 3: Enter Higher Environmental Science and then move on to HNC/HND or a Degree in Sustainable Development or Estate Management.
