What is special about this course?

Do you enjoy working with people and have a keen sense of fun and compassion? Would you like a rewarding career helping others live their lives to the full? This new short, part time, online course will introduce you to a career in Social Care, where opportunities are many and varied.

This course is for you if you are thinking of a career in social care but are not ready to embark in full time study or employment in social care. You will be able to work through the learning materials at your own pace while extending your learning through videos and links to further information. A college tutor will provide support and encouragement to ensure your engagement with all the topics and to monitor your progress.

At the end of the course, you will have a final online meeting with a tutor who will check your understanding of all topics covered, and support you in exploring your next steps, either into employment, or further courses of study in Social Care.
Completion of the course will allow progression on to: ‘Into Care’ course at SCQF level 6, NC Health and Social Care, Access to Nursing, SWAP courses or SVQ Social Services and Healthcare SCQF level 6.

Duty of care, SSSC, Care Standards, safeguarding and boundaries, infection control, digital enabled care
Unit 4 - Reflective practice
Defining reflective practice and its importance, model for reflection, and learning from effective reflection
Unit 5 - Next Steps
Exploring progress and career opportunities, Scottish qualification structure, employers’ views, service users’ views, employment, and further study opportunities

Equipment

Internet connection and a suitable device with headphones, microphone and camera (minimum spec) is required. Please email us if you have any concerns about connectivity or equipment.
 

How will I study my course?

  • Online

Course will be delivered entirely online via Brightspace (a virtual learning environment). Students will work through the units at their own pace within a six-week period with optional scheduled tutor support. Flexible time for start and finish dates.
