A world of excitement lies in wait for you on the Outer Hebrides.

Whether you’ve lived here all your life or you’re coming here to study, the Outer Hebrides offer a rugged, wild landscape to explore - with huge adventures to be had!

The sound of waves on the beach and the peaceful atmosphere in the hills make for a perfect place to unwind after your studies.  If you’re studying a Creative Industries subject, you’ll find your surroundings provide endless inspiration for your work.

The Hebridean Way offers the perfect opportunity to discover the islands from Butt to Barra and along the way, you can visit ancient archaeology, stunning scenery, see beautiful wildlife, take a wild swim or even visit a deserted island.  If you’re looking for adventure, why not take part in the Heb Triathlon?  The event features a 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride, and 10K run - the perfect way to see the scenery as you keep fit.  Cycling is a brilliant way to get around the islands and see the gorgeous scenery.  Follow the roads and explore!

Enjoy the islands from a different perspective on one of the many fantastic boat trips.  Seatrek, based in Uig on Lewis, will head to remote islands like North Rona and the Flannan Isles.  Sea Harris offers scheduled trips to St Kilda and the Shiant Islands.  Kilda Cruises is also based in Harris and runs a day trip service to St Kilda.  Hebridean Sea Tours take adventurers around the Southern Isles or to Mingulay and St Kilda.  Uist Sea Tours will take you on a sightseeing trip to see islands like Mingulay, Monach Isles and St Kilda.  As well as beautiful islands, you have the chance to see marine wildlife, such as whales, seals, dolphins and an amazing range of birdlife.

Horseback riding on the beach makes for an unforgettable adventure.  Uist Riding School offers beach rides for riders of all skill levels.

The glorious waves and fantastic surf make the Outer Hebrides a top spot for surfers.  The Isle of Lewis has some of the most consistent surf in Europe, with a favourite destination being Eoropie Beach.  The beaches also make the perfect place to enjoy some bracing wild swimming.  Why not do some exploring and find your own favourite beach?

If you prefer a more relaxed pace, the islands have excellent golf clubs in picturesque settings.  The Isle of Harris Golf Club boasts one of the most beautiful settings to play in, and has been described as the most picturesque nine holes in the world.  South Uist is home to Askernish Golf Club, an 18 hole golf club that stretches across the island machair that was featured in the New York Times.

Our students come from all over the world to study in our Outer Hebrides colleges - why not join them and have your very own adventure?
