Lews Castle College UHI are preparing to open their campuses ahead of the new academic year and welcome students back.
Lews Castle College UHI are preparing to open their campuses ahead of the new academic year and welcome students back.
A huge amount of work is taking place to provide students with Covid safe study opportunities and more face-to-face learning. New bookable study spaces have been created to allow students access to safe college facilities and learning opportunities. The college library has also been prepared to provide students space to study on campus and make the most of the facilities offered in our campuses across the Outer Hebrides.
LCC UHI Principal Sue Macfarlane said, “We understand that the last 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone, but we want to assure students that we are here for them to continue their studies and develop their careers. We are working hard to create a safe environment for our students, so they can study and enjoy their student experience.
The safety of students is of the utmost importance, some covid restrictions are still in place with the use of masks in communal areas, sanitising stations and regular cleaning continuing throughout the building.”
As we return to some normality the college is welcoming back some student events including Fresher’s week, planned for the first week of September. This will be packed with exciting events for students and will offer them the opportunity to enjoy socialising together again.
There are also new social spaces for students to enjoy with a newly decorated cafe, new foyer layout and relaxing spaces for students to enjoy. The aim is to assure students they are welcome back on campus to learn and enjoy their student experience. There will be continued online learning in some instances but 2021 will mean students have more opportunities to study on campus.
LCC UHI campuses in Barra, Uist and Benbecula will all be open again for the first time since the pandemic began, providing learning opportunities throughout the Outer Hebrides.
