LCC UHI Apprentices - Supporting the Local Industry and new employment opportunities across the Outer Hebrides.
Lews Castle College UHI are delighted to be starting the academic year with over 50 Modern Apprentices at the college.
These apprenticeships are part of a growing programme from LCC UHI to develop and support industry across the Outer Hebrides. The college are working closely with local businesses as well as national training organisations like The Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT), the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Enginuity & Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to create jobs and support industry in our islands.
The new intake this year sees ten Engineering apprentices starting, five with Harland & Wolff at their Arnish facility, two with Macmillan Engineering, two with Energee Services Ltd in South Uist and one employed by Lews Castle College UHI.
In addition, ten new Electrical Installation apprentices and eleven new Carpentry & Joinery apprentices employed by local construction firms including; Neil MacKay & Co Ltd, Lewis Builders Ltd., FES FM Ltd., CalMax Construction Ltd, O'Mac Construction Ltd, Alex Murray Construction Ltd, CnES (shared apprenticeship scheme with McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd), Norserv, Macleod & Buchanan, A Campbell Electrical Services Ltd., Neil Campbell, and G&A Barnies, based throughout the Islands have also started training with us this year.
These places are in addition to 23 Modern Apprentices at various stages, continuing their training with Lews Castle College UHI.

“The college labs and workshops are really well equipped, and the lecturers and technicians are really experienced and helpful.
