Local electrician Andrew has beaten off hundreds of competitors to reach the finals of a prestigious national industry competition.

SkillELECTRIC is the search for the UK’s best young electrician and the premier skills competition for the UK’s electrical industry.

Each year, the best electrical students and apprentices from across the UK compete to win a place in the competition’s grand final.

500 finalists will be competing for gold, silver and bronze at the competitions, which will take place in venues across the four corners of the UK.

Andrew has been serving his Apprenticeship with UHI Outer Hebrides and A Campbell Electrical Services Ltd and they are delighted with his success.

Rachel Campbell, Director of A Campbell Electrical Services Ltd said, “We are all delighted for Andrew, and he thoroughly deserves the recognition for his hard work and dedication, as do all our staff in their continued support throughout his apprenticeship.  This is great for ACES Ltd to be able to demonstrate our apprentices’ abilities by benchmarking their skills against apprentices from other businesses throughout the UK and potentially internationally. We would like to thank SECTT who manage Scottish apprenticeship training, for selecting Andrew for this opportunity, and UHI Outer Hebrides for his apprenticeship training over the last 3 years.”

Sue Macfarlane, Principal of UHI Outer Hebrides said, “This is a well-deserved and wonderful opportunity for Andrew. He is an incredibly hard working and talented apprentice and has previously been awarded Student of the Year at the college. We all wish him luck with the final, we will all be rooting for him.

SkillELECTRIC is organised by registered charity NET who, on behalf of the industry, manage and develop the industry assessment of occupational competence. NET is proud to deliver SkillELECTRIC in partnership with WorldSKILLS UK

Anne Galbraith from SECTT added: “Congratulations to Andrew, Aces Ltd and UHI Outer Hebrides, this is an excellent achievement.  SECTT have four of the eight competitors taking part in the UKWS finals, which brings together the top electrical apprentices from all four nations.  This confirms the quality of training and the commitment from all those involved in the Electrical Installation programme. Well done.
