Computing for Beginners

This practical course will ease individuals into Computing topics and software applications in an informal way, enabling them to gain knowledge and confidence.  Topics covered will include how to use computers, email and the internet safely.  The basics of applications such Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Databases will also be covered, along with an opportunity to consider options for further study and feed into credited subjects on NQ Computing (SQA level 5) and/or HN Computing (SQA level 7) courses.

Business Administration in the Workplace

The course will provide an overview of how Microsoft Office applications such as Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Databases are used within the office environment. The course will look at how to use fundamental areas in the workplace such as:

  • Creating meeting documents such as agendas and minutes
  • Creating paper-based forms and e-forms
  • Using formula within Excel to calculate Income and Expenditure
  • Storing and analysing customer details using Access

This course is ideal as a gentle introduction for individuals and would provide basic knowledge for anyone wishing to progress to courses such as PDA IT in Business or PDA Office Administration. This may also help to identify potentially suitable candidates for HNC Business.
