What is special about this course?

This course is intended mainly for students who have not acquired sufficient National 5 qualifications to progress to the level 6 course, Highers Academy.  The course will provide a bridging qualification between level 4 and level 6.

It is also designed to provide opportunities for students who wish to gain entry to further education courses, but who currently lack the necessary qualifications.

Students also have the option of studying this course on a part-time basis.

Students may also progress from one of the level 4 courses offered by UHI Outer Hebrides

Entry requirements

  • A pass at National 4 (with added value unit), Intermediate 1 at A or B or Standard Grade 3 or 4 in the subject.

  • If the subject is to be studied for the first time e.g. social subjects, the ability to work at level 5 and a keen interest in the subject is required.

  • Adult returners do not require any formal qualifications but must have the ability to work at level 5.

  • National 5 Administration and IT

  • National 5 Care

  • National 5 English

  • National 5 Gaelic Learners

  • National 5 Gàidhlig

  • National 5 Mathematics

  • National 5 Physics

  • National 5 Business

In addition to this full-time students will study British Computer Society modules.

What can I do on completion of my course?

The course will enable students to progress from a level 5 course to the Highers Academy course, and therefore provide access to Higher Education courses to fulfil their personal, social and economic potential.
